On many of my previous recordings I primarily focused on other peoples’ music—jazz chestnuts, classical themes, and Great American Songbook standards. On MAYS PLAYS MAYS all but two of the 15 tracks are my own compositions, celebrating people and places, encompassing the blues, a mini-suite dedicated to family members, a Manhattan neighborhood “soundscape,” various trio romps, and me on two vocals. Over the course of 68 minutes my musical friends and I take you on a sparkling sonic journey, beautifully recorded by Matt Balitsaris and mastered by Michael MacDonald. Enjoy!
